AAATE - Special Interest Groups (SIG) 2 Education
Special Interest Group on "Assistive Technology Education and Information"
This new SIG was established at the 1998 General Assembly. Its mission
consists of establishing a permanent forum within AAATE to stimulate
advancement of education, information and knowledge transfer on Assistive
Technology for AT researchers, providers, suppliers and end-users, by promoting discussion,
exchange of experiences and influencing European government policy. The SIG
is currently composed of the following members:
Luis Azevedo (Portugal), chairman
Renzo Andrich (Italy), vice-chairman
Serenella Besio (Italy)
Michele Bottos (Italy)
Martyn Cooper (Great Britain)
Cristina Crisostomo (Portugal)
Lilli Jensen (Denmark)
Oivind Lorentsen (Norway)
Margarida Nunez da Ponte (Portugal)
Alan Turner-Smith (Great Britain)
Rhoda Weiss-Lambrou (Canada)
Several members of the groups submitted papers for the AAATE99 conference on
topics related to AT education and information. In addition to that, the SIG
will co-support a one-day instructional course to be held in Düsseldorf on
Sunday October 31, just before the AAATE 99 Conference. The topic will be
"Assistive Technology education for end-users"; it will be based on the
findings and results of the TELEMATICS/EUSTAT project, which developed a
European User Manual on AT and Guidelines for trainers. The course is mainly
addressed to people from both user and professional organisations that are
involved in educational and empowerment initiatives for people with
disabilities. The final programme will be made known in the final
announcement of the AAATE99 Conference.
